National
Science Day was celebrated with great fervor and enthusiasm at G.V.M’s Dr. Dada
Vaidya College of Education, Ponda-Goa on 28th February 2019. The
Chief Guest for the function was Dr. Uday Gaunker (Deputy Director of
Education, South Goa, principal of Damodar higher secondary school Gudi Paroda,
Quepem-Goa and ex-Headmaster of Holy Cross Institute, Quepem-Goa). The function
was also graced by the presence of Dr. Allan Abreo – Principal of G.V.M’s Dr.
Dada Vaidya College of Education and Shri Bhaskar Khandeparker – President of
the G.V.M’s General Body.
The
First year and Second year B.Ed. Science students along with their mentor Dr.
Anna Neena George and Science leaders Mrs. S.D. Prathiksha and Miss Reena
Thakur put in great effort to organize this event. The theme kept for Science
day was Exploring Science.
The
uniqueness of this day was the ‘Science Mela’ that was held from the ground to
second floor of the college building. This mela included a lot of varieties
that comprised of the following sections:

demonstrations (8 demos)

Biology
demonstrations (3 demos)
·
Biology
exhibition (4 exhibits)
· Green
shelves (35 NASA certified plants – 13 Air purifier & 22 medicinal)

corner (7 experiments)
·
Quiz
corner and sound scapes
·
Mini
Inox screening space and marine videos
The
hosts for the function were Miss Nitisha Dessai and Miss Rutuja Lotliker. Both
of them did a wonderful job through their words and gestures, thus lighting up
everyone’s mood present at the function.
The non-Science students were given an opportunity to
express their views on how their subjects could be linked with Science and they
actively participated in the Science day programme. English students had to
present a group song depicting their affection to Science. Hindi students had
to recite their own poems/shayaris. Konkani and Marathi students had to choose
one topic from their curriculum and showcase the hidden Science in form of a
conversation. History students had to prepare presentation/charts showing the
scientific inventions which changed the history of man-kind. Geography students
had to present demonstrations of the models or drama-action showing science
linked in it.
The Teachers event was really mind-blowing and interesting.
All the teachers were evaluated wherein they had to complete some amazing
Science challenges by performing simple fun-based experiments. The list of
